Serge Onik, the dancer and choreographer known for his appearances on the reality series So You Think You Can Dance, has died at the age of 33.

A representative confirmed the news in a statement released to E! News and Entertainment Weekly.

Jim Keith at the Movement Talent Agency said: “He was an amazing dancer with a huge heart and he touched the lives of everyone who met him.

“He will be truly missed. This is a sad day for us at the agency and for the dance community as a whole.”

A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Onik was born in the Ukraine, before he moved to the US at the age of three. He first rose to prominence in 2014, competing in the 11th season of So You Think You Can Dance.

That same year, he also worked as a choreographer on Dancing with the Stars. Subsequent years saw him work on projects including Bones, Jane the Virgin, and Marvel’s Agent Carter, as well as the recently released Lin-Manuel Miranda movie musical In the Heights.

Tributes poured in on Onik’s Instagram page, with fans and contemporaries mourning his death.

Fellow So You Think You Can Dance star Allison Holker wrote: “RIP. Sending love to everyone at this time. Gone too soon.”

Emmy-winning choreographer Luther Brown added: “Rest In Peace Serge. Sending condolences to your family and loved ones. You were a real one!!”
