A violent bloke forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's home and subjected her to a brutal attack after banging on her windows and door for EIGHT hours.

Roger Daniel Chambers, 43, stamped on the head of his victim and dragged her across the floor by her hair. His attack was so brutal she was physically sick after he left and could not see out of her eye.

Chambers, of Higher Bore Street in Bodmin, appeared at Truro Crown Court on October 15 for sentencing having pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

Prosecuting the case, Katie Churcher said Chambers attacked his on-off partner of around three years at her home, also in Bodmin, on September 14. She was woken at 1am by the defendant knocking on her bedroom window and trying to climb through her kitchen window which was partially open.

She persuaded him to climb down and she was able to secure the window but he continued to knock on all the windows and doors. He was then texting her until around 3am.

He accused her of having another man in the property and threatened to force his way if she did not allow him entry. At 9.45am he messaged again saying it was a "reasonable time of day" now and wanted to collect his things.

He threatened that he'd knock one more time and then smash a window to gain entry. He soon smashed the bedroom window and forced his way in as she lay in bed.

His victim ran to the kitchen and tried to close the door but the defendant forced it open, causing her to fall. She tried to hide behind a dog crate and used her arms to defend herself but he grabbed her by the hair and dragged her along the kitchen.

He then slapped her several times with both hands. When she tried to crawl away he stamped on her face and body and called her a 'stupid b**ch' and said he would "give her a reason to be scared".

Ms Churcher said the attack lasted for some minutes and, during it, the victim was begging and pleading for him to stop. It only ended when police knocked at the door and the defendant left through the window.

Following the brutal attack, his victim's right eye was so swollen she couldn't see out of it. She had pain throughout her head, leg and body and was physically sick afterwards. Story continues below.

Chambers was arrested later that month and refused to leave his cell to be interviewed. The court heard he's a violent man with 24 convictions for 39 previous offences including violence, battery and ABH.

Defending, Chris Andrews said the defendant pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and that he acknowledged what he had done. Mr Andrews said Chambers had the opportunity to think about what he had done and that he loved his victim and wanted a future with her.

He said he had "self-medicated" and got himself "worked up" and became obsessed with collecting his personal belongings from his victim's property after the breakup. "He sustained a horrible assault on her and he's had to live with that," he added, urging the judge to consider a suspended sentence.

Sentencing Chambers, Judge Simon Carr said: "Your victim cowered in the kitchen trying to hide herself and you found her, struck her a number of times, pulled her around the room by her hair, and stamped and kicked her face which can see by the multiple facial and head injuries in photographs I've seen.

"It would have been terrifying and she would undoubtedly feared for her life. It was a sustained assault on somebody who posed no threat to you at all." He said no sentence but a custodial one would be appropriate.

Chambers was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment. A restraining order has also been granted preventing him from going near the victim or entering the estate where his victim resides for five years.
