Fly-tipping: Calvin Allen Browne was charged with seven offences: Barking and Dagenham Council

A serial fly-tipper has been fined more than £8,000 amid a council crackdown on illegal rubbish dumping in east London.

Calvin Allen Browne, 38, was ordered to pay a total of £8,841 at Thames Magistrates’ Court in Bow following a joint investigation by Newham and Barking and Dagenham councils.

The Dagenham resident had been caught fly-tipping on CCTV and was charged with seven separate offences.

It comes as Barking and Dagenham Council cracks down on fly-tipping, with enforcement officers dishing out almost 80 fines in just the three months from January to March.

Cllr Laila Butt, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, said: “We’ve been scoring some notable successes recently in our war on grime crime but this is only the beginning.

“I can assure residents we will be relentless in our pursuit of fly tippers, litter louts and the selfish few who spoil our streets.”

Cllr Butt added: “We are determined to make a better Barking and Dagenham, this means cleaner streets. But we need people to help us prosecute fly-tippers – if you have any information please contact us.”

She urged people to report fly tips on 0208 215 3000 or the council’s website.
