'Serial offender' tried to hide cocaine in Kinder Egg container

Drug dealer Mark Groombridge was caught with cocaine - he'd hidden inside a Kinder Egg container. Now the 38-year-old, who detectives have branded a 'serial offender' has been jailed.

The defendant had been driving a van on High Street in Uttoxeter back in November, 2022, when he was stopped by officers with Staffordshire Police's major and organised crime team. Cops initially discovered a mobile phone and £705 in cash.

On being taken to custody, cocaine was discovered inside a Kinder Egg Surprise container. Officers then carried out a search of a property in the town where they found £390 in cash, cocaine, and 'drugs paraphernalia'.

Groombridge, of Uttoxeter, was subsequently released under investigation. However he was arrested for a separate offence in October last year where cops carried out a search of a vehicle and an address.

On that occasion they seized knives, cocaine, cannabis, and 'unused snap bags'. Groombridge went on to plead guilty to being concerned in the supply of a class A drug (cocaine), being concerned in the supply of a class B drug (cannabis) and two counts of possession of a bladed article.

During a hearing at Stafford Crown Court he was jailed for four-and-a-half years. Officers have welcomed the sentence.

Detective Sergeant Jon Bradbury, said: “Groombridge is a serial offender so to see him behind bars is of great satisfaction. We will continue to proactively target those involved to protect our most vulnerable and disrupt drug supply in our communities. We want to make it clear that drugs are not welcome in Staffordshire.”
