Several Injured as Ferry Runs Aground in Boston Harbor

A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) ferry ran aground at Long Island in Boston Harbor on August 16, injuring at least four people, according to the US Coast Guard.

WCVB reported that MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the vessel ran aground “after being ‘cut off’ by a sport fishing boat.”

The coast guard said there was a “reported breach in the hull above the water line” on the ferry, named Lightning, and that passengers were evacuated to other vessels. As of 10 am Friday, the coast guard said that all passengers were “safely removed” from the ferry.
