Several Injured as Freak Wave Crashes Into Restaurant in South Africa

At least seven people were injured when a huge wave hit a beach restaurant in the South African coastal village of Southbroom on Sunday, September 17, local media said.

Dramatic footage by Jason Livingstone shows the moment the rogue wave slammed into the venue at Marina Beach, with patrons voicing their concern for a child who was swept off.

Livingstone told Storyful that he was watching a rugby game when the incident occurred.

“Patrons were washed around and some injured,” he said. “A child was washed into the sea with the back wash but was rescued by life guards.”

According to TimesLive, seven people sustained minor to severe injuries, including five who were hospitalized.
