Severe and Deadly Flooding Inundates Metro Jakarta

Flooding continued to inundate areas in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on February 25, after heavy rain from two tropical cyclones dumped water over the metro area, reports said.

This footage shows flooding in the suburban city of Bekasi, where one person was killed and many were without power as floodwaters reportedly reached depths of nearly four feet in some areas. Some residents blamed local authorities and property developers for the severity of the flooding, saying area drainage systems were insufficient or improperly implemented, the Jakarta Post said.

The flooding also caused major transportation disruption in Jakarta’s city center, particularly affecting rail lines and highways, local media reported. Credit: @_pakusadewo_ via Storyful
