'Severely hypothermic' person sparked major rescue bid at Conwy resort
A “severely hypothermic” person floundering in the sea near a Conwy resort was plucked to safety after being spotted by member of the public. A Coastguard helicopter was part of a rapid multi-agency response said to have “saved” the individual’s life.
The drama unfolded around 12.30pm yesterday (Friday, November 29) following reports that a person – reported locally to be female – was in difficulties near Colwyn Bay pier. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said a helicopter, coastguards, ambulance and an RNLI lifeboat crew were sent to the scene.
Leading efforts on the beach was the Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Team. A spokesperson said: “The casualty was spotted by a member of the public who pointed out their location to the first Coastguard on scene.
