Severn Trent issues update on these two shut Burslem roads

Repairs to a burst town centre water pipe will start - once engineers have restored the supply to scores of households. The incident on Burslem's Wedgwood Street came just days after a pipe burst just half-a-mile away on Moorland Road.

Both episodes came as Stoke-on-Trent has seen temperatures plummet with snow across successive nights. Now Severn Trent has confirmed engineers are working on both sites.

StokeonTrentLive reported how the Moorland Road issue unfolded on Tuesday morning following a night of snowfall with engineers thought to have been sent there at around 4am. Residents had reported seeing water pouring down the road.

This morning and locals even claim to have felt a 'rumbling' beneath Wedgwood Street near Queen's Theatre where water is thought to have ripped through the road in two separate locations. Today's burst also saw hundreds of homes and businesses suffer either low pressure or discoloured water from Burslem to Tunstall and Mill Hill affected.

Severn Trent has not been able to give a date on when either road will reopen and says on Moorland Road the pavement has been left 'unsafe'.

A spokeswoman said: "We’re sorry for the disruption in Burslem today which has been caused by a burst water pipe in the area. Our teams are on site and working hard to stop the burst and get everyone’s water back on quickly, and will then start repairs to the pipe.

"Our teams are also working on site at Moorland Road, where an issue earlier this week has resulted in damage to the footpaths, making it unsafe for pedestrians. Work to fix these footpaths will start in the next couple of days and will last for a few days. The road closure will remain in place during this time to keep the public and our workers safe."

Moorland Road is currently shut from the Lingard Street junction down to the lower entrance to Burslem Park. Wedgwood Street is shut between Jenkins Street and the Moorland Road junction.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has confirmed the pavements in the town centre are also shut.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: "We are working with Severn Trent Water to get the diversion route confirmed. Signage will be in place and One.Network will be updated as soon as possible. The footways on both sides will also be closed. Public transport routes will be impacted, please check with the bus operators for information on services impacted. Moorland Road will also remain closed. Please follow the diversions, and plan travel in advance. Thank you for your patience."
