Sex And The City's Mikhail Baryshnikov to star in one-man-show Brodsky/Baryshnikov

Most of us know Mikhail Baryshnikov as Carrie Bradshaw’s Russian boyfriend Aleksandr Petrovsky in hit TV show Sex And The City, but the actor is also a legendary dancer and performer.

Now the star is heading to London to perform the one-man-show Brodsky/ Baryshnikov, based on the poems of his close friend, Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky.

The UK premiere of the show will be at the West End’s Apollo Theatre for just four nights in May this year, with the production giving an emotional and deep insight into the poet’s complex compositions.

Baryshnikov will be reciting a selection of Brodsky’s pieces in Russian with English subtitles, with his subtle physicality set to transport the audience into a reverent imagining of Brodsky’s world, with the show being somewhere between a play, a poetry recital and a piece of performance art.

As well as working together, Baryshnikov and Brodsky became close friends after meeting at a New York party, with the pair maintaining contact for 22 years until Brodsky sadly passed away in 1996.

In fact, the pair were so close that they even opened a restaurant together and Brodsky/Baryshnikov is sure to be a nostalgic tribute to Baryshnikov’s once dear friend.
