Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten Calls President Trump a 'Possible Friend;' Outraged Fans Declare 'Punk Is Dead'

After Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten Calls President Trump a 'Possible Friend;' Twitter Declares 'Punk Is Dead'

President Donald Trump has an unlikely friend in former Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten.

Asked about the president in an interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Monday, the punk icon said he saw similarities between himself and the president, some of whose supporters view him as an anti-establishment figure.

“One journalist once said to me, Is he the political Sex Pistol?’ In a way,” said Rotten, 61, whose real name is John Lydon.

The singer admitted Trump was a “complicated fellow” but slammed the “left-wing media” for branding him a racist.

“There are many, many problems with him as a human being but he’s not [racist] and there just might be a chance something good will come out of that situation because he terrifies politicians,” he said.

“This is a joy to behold for me. Dare I say, [Trump could be] a possible friend,” he added.

Rotten also voiced support for Brexit and called right wing political leader Nigel Farage “fantastic.”

Rotten’s comments are making waves on Twitter, where many fans see his support for Trump as a sign that “punk is dead.”

But Rotten’s admiration for Trump made sense to at least one music fan:

“Anyone surprised Johnny Rotten thinks Trump is a good president should remember he also thought Sid Vicious was a good bassist,” wrote @EliBraden.
