A Labour MP has become the latest person to be interrupted by their child during a live TV interview.

Shadow health secretary Jon Ashworth was speaking to BBC news about the lack of sick pay during the pandemic when his daughter Annie decided to say hello.

The MP for Leicester South initially tried to continue with the interview but the news anchor asked him to introduce the girl.

He said: “It’s nice to see her, we are ruining her evening by keeping her dad up talking to us on the telly.

“What’s her name? Now that you’ve introduced her.”

Ashworth replied: “Her name is Annie and she’s very excited.

“She’s very excited because it was Leicester City at school today and it’ll be Leicester City at the Cup final tomorrow.”

The Labour MP referred to Leicester City’s match against Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

It wasn’t the first time Ashworth had been interrupted by his children while doing a BBC interview, so he should have probably expected it.

During Easter last year, Annie and her sister Grace stopped him during a broadcast from home to show an Easter present their grandma had given them.

At that time, he could be heard saying, “I’m on the TV girls,” but they did not pay much attention, and the interview was ended early.

Ashworth was immediately likened to Professor Robert Kelly who was famously disturbed by his children while speaking to the BBC in 2017.
