BBC One and Netflix are bringing together an impressive cast for their upcoming drama series about the fall of Troy.

Both broadcasting giants jumped at the chance to produce the next project from writer David Farr, who is riding high off the success of his Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning adaptation of The Night Manager.

Troy: Fall of a City will share all of the political intrigue and sex appeal of The Night Manager - it's just set a few thousand years earlier.

The eight-part drama explores the love affair between Paris (The Secret Circle's Louis Hunter) and Helen (Humans' Bella Dayne), whose passion for one another ignites a war between Greece and Troy.

Here's how BBC One and Netflix describe the series: "An epic tale of mortals and gods, David Farr's psychologically rich and sweeping narrative goes back to the story's origins: to the judgement of Paris, his scandalous love affair with Helen, and the ill-starred prophecy surrounding his birth.

"Told from the perspective of the Trojan royal family at the heart of the siege, Troy: Fall of a City is a rich story of love, intrigue, betrayal and belonging. Combining thrilling adventure with heart-breaking intimacy, it conveys the big themes of human existence and identity; of people battling to retain their sense of humanity and compassion amidst the devastation and destruction of war."

The ensemble cast is filled with stars from your favourite movies and TV shows, including Shameless's David Threlfall as Paris' father King Priam of Troy, The Missing actress Frances O'Connor as Queen Hecuba of Troy, Game of Thrones' Joseph Mawle as Odysseus and Harry Potter star Alfred Enoch as Trojan general Aeneas.

"I'm delighted we've assembled such a high quality ensemble cast mixing some exciting new faces with experienced actors whom I have long coveted and admired," David Farr said.

"The story we're telling has an epic and political sweep but is also deeply human and intimate. I look forward to seeing these actors take you on the journey."

Troy: Fall of a City is currently in production in South Africa. David Farr is also reportedly working on ideas for a second season of The Night Manager, although the series hasn't yet been officially renewed.
