Shanghai Disneyland Reopens to Visitors After Coronavirus Closure

Shanghai Disneyland reopened on May 11 for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic prompted its closure more than three months ago. It was the first of Disney’s 14 parks to do so.

Visitor numbers were limited, and social distancing measures were in place. This footage, posted to Weibo, shows staff waving to guests as they enter.

According to reports, Shangai Disneyland released an instructional video on May 8, detailing that temperature checks would be in place, plastic gloves handed out on rides, and specific areas set up for face mask disposal, among other measures.

The New York Times reported that the Chinese government limited the park’s capacity to 24,000 people per day, less than one-third of the its usual numbers. Disney was planning for even fewer visitors, its chief executive said. Credit: weibo.com/3782129597 via Storyful
