Shapps and Raab back Sunak as ex-chancellor launches leadership bid
Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps have given their backing to former Chancellor Rishi Sunak as he launched his leadership bid on Tuesday morning.Mr Raab said that Mr Sunak was a “true Conservative” that had delivered the “biggest tax cut for working people in a decade”.And Mr Shapps, who pulled out of the leadership race, said Mr Sunak had “the competence and experience to lead this country.”It came after Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi took a swipe at Mr Sunak in a row over “fairytale” tax cuts as the Tory leadership contest heated up.
