Sharon Stone says Britney Spears wrote her a letter asking for help when she was enduring “a very difficult time” in 2007.
The Basic Instinct actor revealed her communications with the singer during an appearance on Kelly Clarkson’s US chat show.
She told the host: “Britney wrote to me a very long and important, poignant letter during a very difficult time in her life – about the time when people would recognise her for when she shaved her head – wanting me to help her.”
Stone added that she felt unable to help the troubled singer, as she was experiencing “a very difficult time” in her own life.
“The truth of the matter is, we both needed help,” she told Clarkson.
“She needed help and I needed help.

“And the true fact of it is it’s very hard to be a very successful woman and not have everyone controlling you, taking your finances, and handling you.
“There’s a huge breaking point, and there’s a point where you get broken.”
Spears’ well-documented personal struggles culminated in a 2007 incident which saw the singer drive to a Los Angeles hair salon and ask a staff member to shave her head.
When the hairdresser refused, Spears sheared her own hair off as a huge group of paparazzi frantically snapped images from the street.
The media treatment Spears faced was recently placed under the microscope in the New York Times’ Framing Britney Spears documentary.
The film also detailed the Gimme More singer’s current situation, as she remains bound to the terms of a conservatorship put in place in 2008.
The legal agreement means her father Jamie Spears, and a number of lawyers are in charge of all decisions relating to the star’s multi-million dollar estate and finances.
Stone’s revelation came after Clarkson questioned her on a recent Instagram post Spears shared, which featured photos of female stars including the actress alongside the caption: “These are women that have truly inspired my life.
"Being away from family and my boyfriend while quarantining was really hard for me but the good thing about social media is we can connect in a different way that helps us feel not alone in this crazy world," she added.
"These cool ladies always add a spark to my day.”
Stone is currently promoting her memoir The Beauty Of Living Twice, in which she offers a no-holds-barred account of her childhood and rise to fame, as well as the tremendous obstacles she has faced along the way.
