Sheep worrying warning as one killed and another seriously injured in North Yorkshire attack

One sheep has been killed and another has been seriously injured in an attack in North Yorkshire.

The two sheep were in a small flock when they were attacked in Lower Dunsforth, Aldborough. This took place overnight between September 15 and 16.

Now, North Yorkshire Police have issued a warning and an appeal around 'sheep worrying'.

First, the police reminded the public that it is a criminal offence to allow a dog to worry sheep, and a dog chasing sheep can cause serious harm even if it does not catch or attack them. If you live near farms, you must make sure your dog cannot escape from your house.

It is also important that you keep your dog on a lead around sheep, even if you trust it to come when you call.

The police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information about an incident of 'sheep worrying' that happened overnight between 15 and 16 September 2024 in Lower Dunsforth, Aldborough.

"Two sheep in a small flock were attacked - one received serious injuries, and the other sadly died."
