All the Sheffield restaurants, pubs and takeaways hit with a one star food hygiene rating

We have rounded up an updated list of all of the restaurants, pubs, cafes and takeaways in Sheffield which have been hit with a one star food hygiene rating - and some of them may surprise you.

A one star rating means the establishment requires ‘major improvement’ to their food hygiene standards. There are currently 49 one star rated businesses in Sheffield, 12 of which are restaurants, pubs or cafes and 10 which are takeaways or sandwich shops.

The scoring, which is issued by Sheffield City Council on behalf of the Food Standards Agency, aims to help people ‘choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving you clear information about businesses’ hygiene standards’.

Businesses receive a rating from zero to five, with zero meaning ‘urgent improvement is necessary’ and five meaning 'hygiene standards are very good’. The officer issuing the rating takes into account the handling of food, how food is stored and prepared, cleanliness of facilities and how food safety is managed.

The ratings are available for everyone to view online, and business owners can voluntarily choose to display a sticker with their food hygiene rating in their shop window.
