Sheffield United have been proven right over £13m Leeds United transfer snub
There are three weeks to go until Leeds United face off against Sheffield United at Elland Road live in front of the Sky cameras. Yorkshire bragging rights will be up for grabs and there is bound to be some needle between the two clubs.
Blades boss Chris Wilder was left deeply unimpressed over the Whites' transfer pursuit of Gustavo Hamer. Leeds, who lured Jayden Bogle away from Bramall Lane in a £5m deal earlier in the summer transfer window, had a £13m bid rejected for the attacking midfielder.
“With Gus, we talked about it from a Leeds point of view and what they did,” Wilder said. “I will always be honest with you and you know what I thought about it. They sold two players for £40m each [Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter] and ridiculously low-balled us for our best player. I’m not here to appease anyone up the road, I’m here for Sheffield United Football Club and its best interests. The number was ridiculously low.”

Hamer stayed put and has underlined his class in the Blades' strong start to the season. The 27-year-old has contributed four goals and an assist in six league matches for Wilder's men.
Speaking on the latest episode of the What The EFL?! podcast, EFL expert Adrian Clarke said: "He (Hamer) was their player of the year last year. Leeds wanted him quite badly, United resisted the temptation and they'll be very glad that they did.
"Coming in off the left-hand side, he's been easily their best player so far this season. He’s such a match winner, Hamer, isn't he? I've liked him ever since I saw him play for Coventry City a few years ago.
"They're a good team, no doubt about that. They're very, very solid. They're probably looking for a little bit more from someone like Callum O'Hare. I noticed that he's had two shots this season. Two shots! Callum O'Hare! Unbelievable!
"They're a little bit reliant on Hamer, who's had 21. Kieffer Moore has had 16 and then you're scraping the barrel. Harrison Burrows, the left-back, is on seven, so they need a bit more from some of the other creative players.
"They need to join in and offer a bit more of a threat. In terms of the xG table, they are very much mid-table. So they do need to create better chances and be less reliant on Hamer."
