Sherrie Hewson has bid an emotional farewell to Loose Women after 14 years.
The Benidorm actress – who has been on the panel since 2003 – announced her decision to leave the ITV daytime show live on air, in front of an emotional Andrea McLean, Vicky Pattison and Coleen Nolan.
“I’m going to be leaving Loose Women because it’s kind of time, I’ve said everything there is,” Sherrie tearfully explained. “I’m leaving this seat so somebody else now can sit on this seat for 14 years and tell all their stories.”
During a long chat about her time on the show, the 65-year-old star opened up about how her colleagues had supported her through some difficult times, including bankruptcy and the end of her marriage.
She said: “I think Loose Women is one of the most important shows on the television. Everybody relates to it and when I work in Benidorm – and I’m there five months a year – there’s thousands of women that come up to me every day that say thank you.”
“It’s been incredible, I’ve been here 14 years. And when I came here, I was not in a good place, my husband had gone and I was not happy. These girls have been amazing.”
She added: “It’s been wonderful. When I first came, I was in a very stressed condition and I lost all my hair and I wore a wig, which was just awful, and I got through that and then I was declared bankrupt, I got through that, and all the time these girls were with me.”
Meanwhile, fellow long-term panelist Coleen praised the star, adding: “Can I just say no matter what panellist comes on the show, now, in the future or whenever, there will never be another Sherrie Hewson.”
An emotional Andrea concluded the segment and revealed that Sherrie had helped her through some dark times, too.
“We will really miss you Sherrie. Can I just say – oh you’re making me all emotional now – Sherrie, you were so brilliant to me when my marriage was ending, you were the one that gave me the strength to leave, so we’re really going to miss you.”
It’s safe to say that we’re ALL really going to miss you, Sherrie.
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV. Sherrie’s last show will be on Monday, September 5 – so stock up on your tissues before then.
