Nottinghamshire Police have named the eight-year-old boy who died after falling from a window at his Sherwood home as Hamid Balal. A cordon was in place on Costock Avenue throughout Thursday (September 19) following the tragic incident, which took place the previous evening at around 7.15pm.

Police have confirmed that Hamid was treated at the scene by paramedics but after being taken to the Queen's Medical Centre, the boy died from his injuries. The death is not being treated as suspicious and police continue to work the coroner's service.

Detective Inspector Andrew Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a tragic and distressing incident. Hamid's family are being supported by officers and remain in our thoughts. As they continue to mourn the loss of a much-loved son and brother they have requested privacy at this incredibly difficult time."

Neighbours in the area described the incident as "tragic" and "horrible," whilst a fundraiser to support Hamid's family has since been set up. Nottingham City Council said it would be liaising with police to understand what support Hamid's family may need.
