A 'shining ray of light' - the Romanian tourist who has become the latest victim of the Westminster terror attack

For Romanian tourist Andreea Cristea, March 22 was set to be a wonderful day.

She had been visiting London with her boyfriend Andrei Burnaz, whose birthday they were celebrating.

Not only that, he was reportedly planning to propose to her later that day.

But instead, the couple found themselves at the centre of the carnage caused by Muslim convert Khalid Masood as he launched a terror attack on Westminster.

They were among the pedestrians that Masood ploughed through on Westminster Bridge and Ms Cristea was thrown from the bridge into the Thames below where she was reportedly spotted lying face-down in the water.

After being rushed to hospital for treatment, the 31-year-old was diagnosed with a blood clot on the brain and underwent surgery but died after life support was withdrawn on Thursday afternoon.

Described by her boyfriend and her family as a “shining ray of light”, architect Ms Cristea was said to be a “wonderful daughter, sister, partner, dedicated friend and the most unique and life-loving person you can imagine”.

Both she and her boyfriend were from the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta and had apparently been on their way to meet friends at the other end of Westminster Bridge.

In their statement, her family said money that had been donated to fund her medical treatment and recovery would now be donated to charity, adding: “She would not have it any other way.”

Mr Burnaz, who suffered a broken foot in the attack, visited the scene after he was discharged from hospital, placing a single rose in memory of his later partner.

He has been described by a work colleague as “a brilliant guy, very clever, very good at his work”.
