Shirley sports club submits planning application for open air exercise area
A Solihull sports club has applied for permission for an outdoor exercise area on a previously unused grass area. Old Edwardians Sports Club Ltd in Shirley has submitted a planning application to Solihull Council for the “provision of an open air exercise and fitness area” with “equipment storage at rear of area in container”.
Applicant Michael Allport, on behalf of the club, says the area planned to be used is currently a vacant, unused grass area. The Streetsbrook Road-based venue - which is home to cricket, rugby and a clubhouse which holds various events - originally submitted the application in July.
A public consultation is now underway which finishes on October 23. The documents on Solihull Council’s website reveal the application is a retrospective one, work having been completed in August.

It is proposed the area would be used to hold bootcamp activities, yoga and a ‘run workout’. After the consultation period ends a decision will either be made by either the authority’s planning officers or the council’s planning committee, if the application is ‘called in’ by a councillor.
Anyone wanting to comment on the proposal can do so by visiting publicaccess.solihull.gov.uk and searching for application PL/2024/01501/PPFL.
