Shock sacking puts Man Utd transfer at serious risk, with Ten Hag and player both powerless to resist
A Man Utd transfer that looked straightforward has been plunged into doubt following a shock sacking, per a trusted source.
The Red Devils’ primary focus this summer will be signing a lethal new centre-forward. However, beyond that pursuit, additions could also come at goalkeeper, centre-back and central midfield.
Indeed, a new back-up to David de Gea is wanted. At centre-half, The MEN and MailPlus both reported Harry Maguire has been put up for sale.
With Victor Lindelof teasing a summer exit while on international duty with Sweden, new competition for Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez looks like it’ll be required.
In the engine room, speculation continues to swirl over the future of Scott McTominay. The Scotland international has seen his game-time slashed since the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen and is keenly admired by Newcastle.
In the event United do cash in on McTominay, a permanent move for Bayern Munich loanee, Marcel Sabitzer, could be sanctioned. Even if McTominay is retained, Sabitzer has been favoured by Erik Ten Hag since his January arrival anyway.
The 29-year-old has slotted in seamlessly and per Fabrizio Romano, would love nothing more than to move to Old Trafford outright.
That appeared a move that was easily achievable after Romano noted Bayern plan to refresh their central midfield ranks this summer. The Bavarians were open to severing ties with Sabitzer as part of the overhaul.

Nagelsmann sacking to affect Man Utd plans?
However, the shock sacking of former boss Julian Nagelsmann has thrown a spanner in the works.
Per a fresh update from Romano, Sabitzer’s “Bayern chapter was already closed with Nagelsmann”. If the German had remained at the helm, Sabitzer did not have a future in Munich.
Yet Nagelsmann was relieved of his duties last week and quickly replaced by former Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel.
The managerial change could prompt a re-think with regards to Sabitzer’s future, with a move to Man Utd now under a cloud.
Sabitzer’s loan deal does not contain an option to buy. Nonetheless, United could simply negotiate a permanent move from scratch at season’s end.
But with Tuchel now at the helm, Romano stressed Bayern and Tuchel’s intentions over Sabitzer could differ to Nagelsmann’s.
If Tuchel wants Sabitzer back in Munich, both the player and Ten Hag will be powerless to resist given there is no option to buy.
A decision from Bayern, per Romano, will come some time in May or June. For United’s sake at least, they’ll know very early in the summer window – or even before it opens – whether a Sabitzer signing is viable.
