Shocking CCTV of burglar creeping round home of Alzheimer’s sufferer as she lies in bed

A burglar broke into the home of a sleeping Alzheimer’s sufferer and patted her on the shoulder before fleeing with her jewellery.

CCTV footage shows the suspect climbing through the 90-year-old’s bedroom window, before approaching her chest of drawers and rummaging around for valuables as she lay in bed.

According to the police, the victim woke up and asked the man was he was doing. He replied “I am looking for jewellery” before continuing to raid the property in Bromley.

The suspect, thought to be aged in his mid to late 30s or early 40s, is later seen scouring the living room before returning to the bedroom.

He is then caught on camera patting the victim on her shoulder, before fleeing from the scene with a white paper bag.

The incident took place on Tuesday, March 6 at around 6.30pm.

The victim’s family saw the CCTV footage after arranging for cameras to be installed at her home due to her condition.

Detective Constable Dean Roberts of Bromley Police said: “This incident has left the victim absolutely terrified and her family devastated.

“She has been targeted in a place where she has every right to feel at her most safe and comfortable.”

Appealing for the public’s help, he said: “The CCTV footage is very clear. Do you recognise the man captured in these images?

“We also believe a torch light was shone through the window while the man was inside, suggesting there may have been an accomplice who was not caught on camera.

“I would urge anyone with information to call us as soon as possible.”
