Shocking footage shows Nottingham 'fireworks war' break out between youths who fired at police

Pictures have shown the shocking scenes that unfolded on Bonfire Night as crowds of youths recklessly shot fireworks at each other and police as part of a 'fireworks war'. Officers were called to Midland Way, Radford, around 10.20pm on Tuesday, November 5, after reports people were firing fireworks at each other in the heavily student populated area, as well as surrounding buildings and parked vehicles.

Multiple police units were deployed to the incident, with fireworks being aimed at officers and other emergency service colleagues who responded. No serious injuries or damage were reported, according to Nottinghamshire Police.

The crowds were dispersed but further disorder was later reported in the city centre, with more fireworks being launched at officers. Footage from St Ann's Well Road, which had previously been the epicentre of a 'fireworks war' between different student accommodations on Halloween, showed groups of people dangerously shooting the colourful munitions at each other at around 2am on Wednesday, November 6.

Nottinghamshire Police, which also had to disperse the city centre crowds, said that luckily no one was injured by the fireworks. Chief Inspector Mike Ebbins vowed to prosecute anyone involved with the incidents around the city, appealing for witnesses to get in touch with anything that could identify participants.

“I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is underway, and we are pursuing several lines of inquiry that will ensure that those responsible are tracked down, caught and dealt with," Mr Ebbins said. “We won't tolerate such appalling behaviour which puts people at risk of harm, including our officers and fellow blue light colleagues who were in attendance trying to keep people safe, and we'll seek to prosecute anyone involved.

“There will be increased patrols in the affected areas tonight, providing reassurance for the public, as we continue with our investigation. While our inquiries remain ongoing, we’re urging anyone with mobile phone, social media footage or dashcam footage that could assist our investigation to please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 452 of November 5, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
