Video footage shows the moment the ski lift sped up with passengers hurtling towards the ground.

People behind the camera can be heard screaming.

When the skiers had reached the ground, they had to rush to get out of the way of oncoming chairs.

One person can be heard shouting for the machine to stop.

At one point, the skiers fail to get off the chair and are thrown into the air by the machine.

As people begin to realise what is happening, those still on the chairlift start to jump off to avoid being injured.

Local media reported that the lifts meant that the machine sped up to double the normal speed, throwing people off their chairs.

According to Georgia Today, it Is thought that the Ministry of Economy of Georgia has contacted the company that made the lifts to ask for an investigation to be launched.
