Holidaymaker's miracle escape after campervan demolished in horror crash

A holidaymaker had a miracle escape when his vintage campervan was destroyed in a horror crash.

The driver had pulled over to the side of the road after a tyre burst before it was involved in the smash with a Nissan 4x4.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A46 near Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, after the crash at around 12.50pm on Thursday, 19 June.

The man driving the campervan was hauled to safety before being rushed to hospital while the car driver suffered minor injuries.

Shocking images show the remains of the 20ft-long Turbo D Ducato, which was left torn apart with its roof hanging precariously over the windscreen.

They also show how one of the only parts of the vehicle not destroyed was the driver's seat.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 12.48pm on Thursday the crew from Stratford attended an RTC on the A46 at Bishopton Stratford.

"The campervan had stopped on the side of the road after a tyre had blown out.

"The other vehicle came into contact with the camper."

People on social media expressed their amazement that anyone survived the crash.

Writing on Facebook, Susan Baldwin said: “Omg they must of been travelling at some speed to not see the motorhome had stopped, must be devastating their pride and joy gone. Feel so sorry for them but thank god they weren’t more injured.”

Johnny Wright added: “Absolutely staggered no one was killed. How the hell did anyone get out of that? He’s lost his campervan but still has his life!”

Meanwhile Grace Fenton wrote: "That is one unhappy camper. Bet he needs a holiday after that! Oh..."
