An air ambulance was sent to Hanley after two shoppers were injured in a fall on an escalator at the Potteries Centre. The helicopter touched down between Lower Bryan Street and Union Street this afternoon (November 12).

The alarm was raised after two customers - believed to be an elderly couple - tumbled on the escalator linking the ground-floor of the shopping centre with Hanley Market. They were both taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

A spokesperson for The Potteries Centre said: “Two customers were injured following a fall on the escalator whilst in the centre today. Our team together with the BID and market team were on site immediately and supported the emergency services upon arrival and until the lady and gentleman were taken to hospital for further care. The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority and we wish the lady and gentleman a speedy recovery."
