Shoreham Crash Officers Quit Over Scene Video

Two police officers who filmed themselves at the scene of the Shoreham air disaster have left the force.

The pair, aged 23 and 24, sent the footage and an "offensive" message via social media to a colleague, who alerted the force's professional standards department.

Following a disciplinary hearing - which found they should both be dismissed - the officers chose to resign.

Chief Constable Giles York said: "The men, who have less than two years' service, are clearly remorseful and have acknowledged the impact of what they had done.

"But when it really mattered the officers failed to show understanding and compassion for the victims and their families.

"I am confident that they would not go on to become well-conducted officers.

"Officers and staff can be forgiven for making genuine mistakes, but the behaviour of these two officers was inexplicable and caused unnecessary distress to the families of those involved, for which we sincerely apologise."

Eleven people were killed when a vintage Hawker Hunter jet crashed on the A27 during the Shoreham Airshow on 22 August.
