Show Dogs getting re-cut over sexual abuse concerns

Show Dogs is getting re-cut over concerns about its portrayal of sexual abuse.

The children's film follows the adventures of a Rottweiler police dog called Max (voiced by Ludacris) ordered to go undercover alongside his human partner (Will Arnett) at a prestigious Dog Show.

Already out in cinemas in the US and due for a UK release on Friday (May 25), concerns about a scene which sees Max become comfortable with strangers touching his genitals were raised by mommy bloggers and groups including the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

In the scenes, Max is advised by a former champion dog to go to his "zen place" in order to get through the dog show's genital inspection, causing the furore.

As a result, the film's producers Global Road Entertainment are now re-cutting the film.

A Global Road Entertainment spokesperson told Deadline: "Responding to concerns raised by moviegoers and some specific organisations, Global Road Entertainment has decided to remove two scenes from the film Show Dogs that some have deemed not appropriate for children.

"The company takes these matters very seriously and remains committed to providing quality entertainment for the intended audiences based on the film's rating.

"We apologise to anybody who feels the original version of Show Dogs sent an inappropriate message.

"The revised version of the film will be available for viewing nationwide starting this weekend."

Show Dogs is already in US cinemas and is released in the UK on Friday, May 25.
