Shrimps x Converse: A first look at the highly-anticipated sneaker collab
Five years ago Hannah Weiland launched Shrimps and firmly put fabulous faux fur on the map.
In 2015, the brand expanded into ready-to-wear and now, through a partnership with Converse, Shrimps is making its mark on the ever-expanding sneaker market, with the launch of two adorable trainers.
“I've worn Converse consistently since I was a child, which was why I wanted to work with them so much! They are a timeless and ageless shoe,” says the 28-year-old designer, who earlier this year launched a super successful interiors range with Habitat.
Weiland has taken Converse’s classic One Star shape and reworked it in powder pink leather printed with painterly red roses, a matching pink rubber outsole and a strip of Shrimps faux fur down the heel stay and she's Shrimpified the Chuck 70 Hi with white canvas screen printed with Weiland’s signature cartoon faces, a thick black rubber sole and a strip of black faux fur on the heel.
She looked to the archives when coming up with the designs: “The doodle face print is the first print I ever designed for Shrimps, it is a unique take on a classic print, we use it across the brand, on packaging to silk pieces,” says Weiland. “This is the first time we have used it on trainers and I must say it's one of my favourites!”
Alongside the shoes there’s a super cute white tracksuit, printed with a multi-coloured array of Weiland’s doodle faces, which will no doubt pop up all over Instagram as many a fashion girl's Boxing Day telly-watching attire of choice. It’s the first time Shrimps have made the move into athleisure wear.
“I loved the idea of a product that is so different to what we offer at Shrimps,” says Weiland. “Seeing our prints on street wear is something we have never done before.”
