Si King has provided an update on his Hairy Bikers co-star Dave Myers as he continues to battle cancer, saying that his friend is "right in the trenches" of fighting the disease.

Myers revealed in May that he has been diagnosed with cancer and began treatment this year, though he has kept the type of cancer private.

Speaking in Bolton at the town's food and drink festival over the weekend — reported via the Daily Mail — King said that Myers is currently responding well to chemotherapy.

"I just wanted to say, from Dave and I, thank you so so very much for all of the goodwill and support. All the messages really do not go unnoticed," said the celebrity chef.

King added: "He's doing canny but, as you appreciate, he's right in the trenches of it all at the minute. But he's getting there, thank God."

When he announced he was undergoing chemotherapy, Myers joked that he might well be a "baldy biker" for a while in the wake of his treatment.

In July, he told the White Wine Question Time podcast that the gruelling process of chemotherapy seemed to be working.

Myers said: "I wouldn't wish [chemotherapy] on my worst enemy, to be fair.

"All I'm hoping for is, when I get through this, I'll never whinge again, about anything. I really want to embrace life and everything it's got to offer."

King and Myers met in the 1990s when both were working in the world of TV production and they have since fronted numerous TV shows, including four series of The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook since 2004.

In 2013, Myers took part in Strictly Come Dancing, where he performed alongside professional dance partner Karen Hauer.
