Sickening moment Edinburgh cyclist 'thrown to ground' by driver on Old Town street


An Edinburgh cyclist was reportedly assaulted following an altercation with a driver on a busy Old Town street.

Police were called to High School Wynd, at the junction with Cowgate, at around 6.30pm on Friday evening following a report of a male cyclist having been assaulted.

The 34-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital to be checked over and it is understood police are following positive lines of enquiry in relation to the incident.

Footage of the alleged altercation has been shared on social media which appears to show the cyclist involved in a verbal spat with the passenger of the vehicle before the driver approaches him and grabs him by the neck and throws him down onto the ground.

The cyclist is left lying on the road holding his head surrounded by shocked eye witnesses as the vehicle drives off.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.25pm on Friday, 20 September, 2024, we received a report of a male cyclist being assaulted during an altercation with the male driver of a car in High School Wynd, Edinburgh.

“The 34-year-old victim was taken to hospital to be checked over and officers are following positive lines of enquiry in relation to the incident.”
