Silent Witness series 23 finale spoilers follow.

Silent Witness star Emilia Fox has said that the show will be "very different" after Liz Carr and Richard Lintern's exits.

The 23rd series of the forensic drama saw Dr Thomas Chamberlain (Lintern) killed off by a deadly nerve agent right in front of his friends, with his second-in-command Clarissa (Carr) then deciding to leave the team for something that involved fewer dead bodies.

Now, speaking to Metro, Fox has admitted that it'll be tough to replace the two fan-favourites.

"It was devastating. It was a conversation that was across a whole series because they have to work out the story arc of how that's going to be, so there were lots of discussions about it and lots of working out how it was to be done and to work for the actors themselves," said the Dr Nikki Alexander actress.

David Caves, who plays forensic Dr Jack Hodgson on the show, added: "I wasn't there sadly because of the schedule the way it worked out. I actually wasn't in with either Richard or Liz their last day.

"We had some tearful goodbyes and some celebrations as well of how amazing they've been on Silent Witness."

"How missed they will be – it will be very different, I'm sure," said Fox.

"I think both have gone on to do loads of work already," she added, before Caves joked: "They'll be fine. Let's not feel too sorry for them!"

Silent Witness airs on BBC One, and you can catch up on iPlayer.
