Cape Town – The creators who brought us The Golden Girls are working on new show inspired by the classic sitcom.
Variety reports that Stan Zimmerman and James Berg are working on a comedy series Silver Foxes.
The show follows two older gay men and a younger man who rescue their friend from his homophobic assisted-living facility and bring him back to their home in Palm Springs.
According to Huffington Post the show was inspired by the 2011 documentary Gen Silent, which explored the issues LGBTQ seniors faced in assisted living facilities.
The cast for the show has yet to be announced. However, last year Zimmerman posted a picture of a 2016 table reading he had with George Takei, Leslie Jordan, Bruce Vilanch and Todd Sherry.
THE GOLDEN GIRLS CONNECTION
While the show is inspired by The Golden Girls in an email to Fox News Zimmerman said it is not an official reboot.
He also revealed that they are hoping to get Betty White on for a cameo.
Just like The Golden Girls the show will touch on hot topics in the current policitcal climate in the US.
In an interview with Huffington Post Zimmerman said that "Hollywood should give the show a chance because it is important to hear the voices of the older LGBTQ community."
