Simon Cowell’s new look certainly raised eyebrows last month when he arrived in Hollywood to start shooting the latest season of America’s Got Talent. Now, the music mogul has joked he may have had “a bit too much” Botox over the years.

In an interview with The Mirror, the 59-year-old admits that he and Britain’s Got Talent pal Amanda Holden love laughing about “the Botox years” and find it “hysterical” whenever they watch old clips of themselves on television.

“All of us are like, ”Christ, we had a lot that year. Not so much that year… maybe a bit too much that year,”‘ he teased. “Amanda’s always like, ‘What was I thinking?’

“I said, ‘Well, I don’t look a lot better.’ I look all right now, but certain years it was like, ‘Wow, I don’t know what was going on.’”

Last month, Cowell confessed to having spent £2,000 on a special 21st century facelift that involves stitching bioplastic-infused thread into the face and neck and pulling them tight in order to get rid of sagging skin.

He also attributed his recent weight loss to a new vegan-based diet.

“There’s lots of things you can do now. You don’t just have to stuff your face with filler and Botox,” he told The Sun. “It hurts like hell but it gets rid of sun damage and unplugs all the c**p.

"For me now, it’s all about having clean skin. If you have clean skin, you look better. But you have to be very careful with some of this stuff.”

In 2014, Holden said she’d given up Botox after the difficult birth of her daughter Hollie two years earlier.

“Everybody knows that in the past, yes, I've talked about having Botox,” she said during an appearance on This Morning.

“Since spending too much time in intensive care after nearly losing a baby, I've not gone under the knife or had any injections.

“But I have facials, I buy things from well-known chemists, it's not how I look physically, it’s how my husband and how I feel about myself.”
