Simon Cowell to introduce golden buzzer to Britain's Got Talent live shows?

Ooh, things could be about to get very interesting at Britain’s Got Talent…

It has been reported that Simon Cowell is seriously considering introducing the famous golden buzzer to the live semi-finals in a bid to spice up the show.

The move would mean that judges Simon, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden, as well as hosts Ant and Dec, would each be able to guarantee one act a spot in the final – giving them much more control over the final line-up.

A source explained to The Mirror: “The golden buzzer is one of the favourite elements in the audition shows.

“The atmosphere when it is pressed is incredible. This will give the judges and Ant and Dec the chance to guarantee their favourite acts get a spot in the final.

“Producers believe it would make the five live semis even more exciting.”

As it stands, two acts from each semi-final are voted into the final, with the one that gets the most public votes being secured a spot and then the judges choosing between the second and third most popular acts for the other.

However, if the golden buzzer rule is brought in then the judges and public will have an equal say.

As it stands, Alesha Dixon and Simon Cowell have already pressed their golden buzzer during the audition rounds of the show, with Simon securing 15-year-old singer Sarah Ikumu a spot in the semi-finals and Alesha pressing the buzzer for moving dance troupe, ‘Just Us’.

Meanwhile, Simon recently gushed about how much his three-year-old son, Eric, helps him when it comes to deciding which acts to take further in the competition.

He explained: “When I watch the audition clips back afterwards, I watch him. If he’s interested in the clip, they’re usually very good. When he looks away, they’re not. He gets it and he loves coming to the show.

“The first time he came down, he was nervous because he saw an ‘X’ as being a kiss. That’s what his mum had taught him. So he used to call our judges’ buzzers The Scary Kisses.

“Then he worked out they weren’t kisses and, when he was about two, I asked him what I did for a job. He said ‘You press buzzers.’ I said ‘Yes but there’s a little bit more to it than that.’ And now he’s starting to get it.”

We wonder if Eric will be getting his own golden buzzer in Britain’s Got Talent series’ to come? To be honest, we wouldn’t put it past Simon.
