Simon Cowell to launch new music show 'to take on Strictly Come Dancing'

Strictly Come Dancing has regularly come out on top over X Factor in the ratings battle in recent years, but Simon Cowell has something up his sleeve.

The 58-year-old music mogul has revealed plans to launch a new music programme in the near future.

Simon Cowell has a new show in the pipeline

Speaking to the Daily Star, he said: “Watch this space. We’ve got a new show soon. I can’t say more but it’s still music.

“You’ll like the one we’re making. You’ll have to wait but you will see more about it soon. We make lots of shows but this is a music show.”

Simon has masterminded the success of programmes such as Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, but in recent times Strictly has emerged as the dominant show in the ratings.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Sunday results show averaged 9.6 million viewers

X Factor’s figures fell to 4.3 million live viewers on average on Sunday evening, compared to Strictly Come Dancing’s results show attracting a 9.6 million average.

But it doesn’t look likely to be the end of X Factor anytime soon as Simon was recently reported to have offered Cheryl Tweedy a £1.5 million deal to return to the judging panel at the expense of Nicole Scherzinger.

Simon has previously admitted to losing his “mojo” in 2016 following the death of his mother Julie Brett, who passed away in July 2015.

Could Cheryl Tweedy replace Nicole Scherzinger in £1.5 million deal?

Speaking last year, Simon explained: “I found it difficult when something is really affecting your life and you are on a talent show and you are trying to be up and happy.

“I didn’t feel myself and it really took me a year to come out of it. We have all been there. And I am not saying I am the only person it’s ever happened to but it hit me hard.

“Now I have had some time and rest and I think I have got my mojo back again.

“I can remember three years ago with Britain’s Got Talent and I thought the show had lost its zing a little bit and we all got it back together.

“That happens on a long-running show. You are not always going to have your best year.”
