Simon Cowell pitches Bake Off-style show to BBC

Talk about jumping in someone’s grave.

It sounds like barely a few minutes passed between Bake Off’s shock defection to Channel 4 and Simon Cowell picking up the phone and dialing the BBC switchboard.

Yep, Simon’s production company SyCo has apparently been pitching a Great British Bake Off-style show to the corporation in an everso kind bid to fill the hole left by the cookery show’s departure.

“I am open for business and I have got an idea for a new bread show, which involves cake and innuendos, and the BBC can have the contract for life,” the old wag chuckled to The Sun.

Wait, he’s having us on, right? We’re never entirely sure with Simon.

Still, it wouldn’t be the first time Simon’s dabbled in the world of foodie TV. Remember Food Glorious Food with Carole Vorderman? You don’t? Oh.

The 2013 project, which saw contestants compete to find Britain’s best home-cooked dish, was soundly ignored by the Great British Public, and cancelled after just one series.

The winner of the show even had their pride and joy mass-produced and piled onto the shelves of Marks and Spencer as part of the prize. Which is presumably where it’s still sitting.

Simon admits he’s no fan of Bake Off’s move from the BBC. “Personally I think it is a mistake,” he said. “I just do.”
