Simon Cowell To Make Hard-Hitting Crime Investigation Series On ITV

TV talent boss Simon Cowell is going to don his detective gear in a new hard-hitting crime investigation series on ITV.

His company Syco has teamed up with former detective and reporter Mark Williams-Thomas – the man who exposed Jimmy Savile as a serial sex abuser – to make The Investigator: A British Crime Story, which will air next month.

The four-part series will re-examine the mysterious case of Carol Packman, who disappeared from her home in 1985 and has never been found, though her husband Russell Causley was later given a life sentence for her murder.

Media mogul Simon Cowell will undoubtedly be investigating the television ratings as much as the real life crime stories, as a TV source revealed: “Simon is very excited about producing some serious TV shows in a very different genre to The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.”

And since his talent shows are more than a decade old, Cowell is keen to dust off trench coat and trilby to investigate crime – an area that he became interested in after watching the US series The Jinx.

Moreover, the 2012 ITV documentary The Other Side Of Jimmy Savile earned his partner in crime, Williams-Thomas, at least three awards.

According to ITV, The Investigator will combine “stylized drama with compelling documentary”, but will it experience the same success?

The clues are certainly all there!
