Simon Cowell is planning to bring his fans double the X Factor and Britain's Got Talent this year in the biggest shake-up ever to his ITV talent competitions.

Following speculation about the future of X Factor earlier this week, Cowell has now clarified that he's actually planning to air back-to-back special series of the show on ITV this autumn.

The first will be the much-rumoured celebrity format similar to 2006's one-off The X Factor: Battle of the Stars, to be followed directly by another series featuring only top contestants from The X Factor's history.

Britain's Got Talent is getting its traditional series this spring with Ant & Dec presenting as well as Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams joining Simon on the judging panel as well.

Then, Cowell will bring viewers Britain's Got Talent: The Champions, patterned after the hit America's Got Talent spinoff currently airing on NBC in the US.

This AGT spinoff invited the best contestants from all of the global editions of the franchise - including Susan Boyle, Ashleigh Butler and Paul Potts - return to crown one ultimate winner.
