How to make a simple hand-tied flower bouquet

Do you remember when you were just a child and would pick flowers at the park to take home? They were special because you made them.

As adults, we tend to get lazy and rush to the florist or the grocery store to pick up a bunch.

However, there’s no reason why you couldn’t arrange one on your own. DIY projects have been trending in all aspects of our lives from fashion and food to interior design, and flowers are no different.

Together with Worm London, a flower shop in Stoke Newington, Pinterest hosted a floral workshop on Friday to show how putting together a bouquet is not rocket science and anyone could do it.

Jade Thomson made an entire bunch for the first time, and she was very happy with the turnout. “I think it worked well, I was quite surprised. It was quite easy, and the girls were great at giving lots of good advice,” she said.

The founders of Worm London, Terri Chandler and Katie Smyth, brought a variety of flowers for attendees to choose from. They also had a Pinterest board projected on the wall and several photos on the table for inspiration.

Seeing how Pinterest could be used as a tool in your life was one of the reasons why the event took place.

Michelle Kramer, head of international PR at Pinterest, said this workshop wasn’t only to bring out your inner florist, but to show how you can bring ideas you see on Pinterest to life.

She said they didn’t consider themselves a social network: “We consider ourselves a visual discovery engine, or rather a tool to design your life.”

So, if you feel inspired and want to arrange something special and personal to your loved one or just for your home, then head to a flower market for everything you need.

Katie and Terri get the majority of their flowers from the New Covent Garden Market, and they highly recommend that for anyone who wants to get flowery and creative.

"Anyone can go, so everyone should go," Katie said, noting that you can meet some great and interesting people there as well.
