Simple Radio review

Simple Radio makes available over 25,000 radio stations from around the world. The only nagging thing about it is the integrated advertising, which can interfere with the search experience.

Pros

Streamlined interface: From the moment you first launch it, Simple Radio charms you with its neat interface that allows you to effortlessly search for a station and tune to it. With a tap, you can add any station to your Favorites, which then greets you every time you open the app.

Extremely stable and reliable: In our tests, we haven't experienced any buffering problems or come across stations that didn't load.

Good playback integration: The Play/Pause controls in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and the Notification area playback integration are neat features that improve your experience.

Cons

Ads interfere with the Search/Favorites features: If you don't go premium, you have to put up with a banner located just under the menu at the top of the screen -- it's easy to tap on it by mistake while trying to hit the search button or the Favorites screen.

No genre categorization: You can't browse stations by genre, which can make it hard for you to find genre stations if you don't know their exact names.

Interface could be improved: While usable, the interface isn't necessarily pretty, having a rather dull and awkward look to it. With a good redesign, this app can become much more popular than it is.

Bottom Line

Reliable, clean, and focused, Simple Radio is a great radio app if all you want is to be able to tune to your favorite stations as quickly and as easily as possible. If you don't mind the ads, or if you are willing to pay to have them removed, then this no-frills piece of software has the potential to become your new favorite radio app.
