If you want your fresh flowers to last longer and bloom, there's one trick you need to try when cutting the stems. Often, you'll see hacks that require several different items.

But thankfully for this one, all you need is a pair of scissors. Nicole Jaques, also known as @itsnicolejaques on Instagram, has shared her must-try tip.

She discusses frequently the newest kitchen and cleaning hacks, as well as recipes. She said in a new update: "Did you know this fresh flower tip? This technique plus the flower food will keep your blooms going for weeks."

Demonstrating how she cuts the stems underwater, she explains that there's a good reason for this. Encouraging people to try this instead of cutting the stems as they usually would, she asks: "Why cut the stems under water?

"The reason for this is because when the stem is cut, the flower's roots immediately lose access to water. As air flows through the stem, an air pocket or embolism occurs, preventing the absorption of water."

She concludes: "Cutting underwater reduces the risk of air pockets and allows the flowers to absorb water right away."
