The Sims 4 will add the series' first pre-made transgender Sim when the Island Living expansion pack launches tomorrow (June 21).

In 2016, EA and Maxis worked with LGBTQ+ organisation GLAAD to remove gender boundaries when creating new characters in the Create a Sim mode. The game update was significant, allowing Sims to have any type of physique, hairstyles, clothing, walking style, and more regardless of gender.

Two years later, The Sims 4: Island Living is adding Lia Hauata into the game's world.

First spotted by YouTuber lilsimsie at this month's EA Play event, the character lives on the island of Sulani, the location introduced by the latest expansion pack. Lia is a female Sim with a masculine body frame.

"In a game that's supposed to be about representing people, it is so cool to see people represented. The Sims, one of the biggest franchises ever, just put an actual transgender Sim into their game… and she's beautiful," lilsimsie said.

A lesbian couple also live in the north-west of Sulani.

The inclusive expansion pack comes during Pride month, and The Sims 4 recently released a game update that features Pride-themed clothing, LGBTQ+ flags, and a gender-neutral bathroom door, having partnered with the It Gets Better project.

Developer Maxis also confirmed the next paid packs coming to the game. The Moschino Stuff Pack is scheduled for the summer, while magic will finally come to The Sims 4 in the autumn with the Realm of Magic game pack.

The Sims 4: Island Living is out on PC and Mac tomorrow (June 21) and on Xbox and PlayStation 4 on July 16.
