SINGAPORE – Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been named World's Best Airline at the 2023 Skytrax World Airline Awards, taking over the top spot from Qatar Airways.

It's the fifth time the country's national air carrier has won the prestigious accolade. In 2019, 2021 and 2022, SIA came second after Qatar Airways.

The Skytrax awards are based on surveys of more than 20 million travellers across over 100 nationalities, who rated more than 325 airlines between September 2022 and May 2023.

Japan's All Nippon Airways is in third place this year, with Emirates and Japan Airlines coming in fourth and fifth, respectively.

SIA took the top spot in four categories at this year's Skytrax awards, including Best First Class Airline, Best First Class Comfort Amenities, and Best Airline in Asia.

Scoot named Best Long Haul Low-cost Airline

SIA's low-cost subsidiary Scoot was named Best Long Haul Low-cost Airline, and ranked second in the World's Best Low-cost Airlines category.

SIA's chief executive officer Goh Choon Phong received the World's Best Airline award on behalf of the Airline in Paris on Tuesday (20 June).

"This award is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our people, who worked tirelessly and made many sacrifices to ensure that SIA was ready for the recovery in air travel. That has allowed us to emerge stronger and fitter from the pandemic as a leading international airline," Goh said in a statement.

He added that they are very grateful to their customers for their loyalty and support, especially during the pandemic.

Edward Plaisted, Skytrax's chief executive, congratulated SIA for the achievement and said that the success should be a source of great pride and satisfaction for the airline management and staff.
