Singing Fills Botanical Garden in Los Angeles Suburb During Sound Installation

Weeks before record-breaking heat and wildfires bore down on the Los Angeles area, heavenly voices began filling parts of Descanso Gardens in the LA suburb of La Cañada Flintridge, courtesy of English composer Pete M Wyer.

The sound installation, inspired by birdsong and called The Sky Beneath Our Feet, was achieved by mounting 72 speakers in the woods of the garden’s Oak Grove and Camellia Forest.

Footage uploaded to Instagram in mid-July shows a wooded area with the choral music being played amid the trees.

Descanso Gardens wrote that Wyer’s piece was “a direct response to the land and particularly the trees of Descanso.”

According to his website, Wyer has written scores for the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Television, and other institutions.

The installation will be open to the public through September 30, 2020, according to the garden’s website. Credit: @ccinsd via Storyful
