News that The Sinner would be returning for season three was announced all the way back in March 2019 and FINALLY, we have lift off, the latest chapter arriving February 6 on USA Network.

The eight-episode anthology series airs weekly, taking viewers all the way through to March 26.

But are there plans to continue it beyond that?

Here's everything you need to know about The Sinner season four.

The Sinner season 4 release date: When will it air?

There's been no word from creator Derek Simonds about how far he plans to take the series, so we don't know if there will be a fourth instalment. It all depends on how season three wraps up...

But if we do get another batch of episodes, when can we expect them to arrive?

Seasons one and two aired in August 2017 and 2018 respectively in the US, with season three arriving (in the US) in February 2020.

But its UK release hasn't been announced.

Seasons one and two are available to stream now on Netflix UK, and we'd expect season three (and four, if we get it) to also end up there, obviously at a later date.

How much later, though, is currently unclear.

If you don't have a Netflix subscription, BBC Four has also bought the repeat rights, although you'll be watching it a lot later than its USA Network and Netflix premieres.

The Sinner season 4 cast: Who's in it?

The Sinner has roped in a number of well-respected actors across its three seasons, including Carrie Coon, Chris Messina and Jessica Biel, who continues to play a central role behind the scenes as executive producer.

"She's phenomenal," season three star Matt Bomer said of Biel at the premiere (via Variety). "She was there from the get-go, before this even started.

"We sat down, we had lunch, [Biel's co-producer and Iron Oceans co-founder] Michelle Purple was there. She and I talked about the show, what the tone was, and what to expect over the course of the season."

He added: "I always say there should be like a Sinner support group for everybody who has had to play the sinner because you can't really understand it unless you've had to do it. It's that dark. And [Biel] has, and she was always there for me to lean on...She's a great boss."

But they've all been and gone, with Bill Pullman as detective Harry Ambrose the only character to appear in all three seasons to date.

But whether he'll still be standing at the end of season four remains to be seen.

As for the rest of the cast, expect a brand-new lineup.

The Sinner season 4 plot: What will happen?

Given its anthology format, every season of The Sinner tackles a fresh mystery.

Season one was all about Jessica Biel's Cora Tannetti, digging into her backstory to understand what compelled her to stab a man to death.

Season two focused on 13-year-old Julian Walker, who apparently murdered his parents in a motel room.

Season three kicks off with a tragic car accident, which spirals into something much more sinister.

As for season four, we'll have to wait and see.

The common thread is detective Ambrose, who has worked on all three of those cases. But not only is he dealing with the trauma of others, he's also wrestling with his own demons, which will likely bleed into the next chapter.

The Sinner season 4 trailer: When can I watch it?

First up, we need that all-important renewal.

If season four does get the green light, the trailer will arrive in the month leading up to the premiere.

Expect a lot more of the same...
