There's nothing more miserable than not being able to sleep.

After all, we need rest to feel energised, awake and to simply get through the day ahead. If you struggle to catch some Zs, you're in luck, as an expert has revealed that drinking one simple beverage before bed will ensure you get some shut-eye.

Sabrina Bawa, author of Detox to Glow, recently shared a recipe on TikTok for the perfect evening drink. According to the wellness expert, a simple warm drink can help you sleep better each night, and the recipe is pretty simple.

If you sip on a little warm cinnamon milk around an hour-and-a-half before bed, she said it will help you to calm the mind and unwind. We all need a little relaxation to help us get to sleep, after all.

To make the spiced milk she uses one cup of plant-based milk, around a quarter to a half teaspoon of cinnamon powder and half a teaspoon of ghee. She brings this mixture to a slow boil for a few minutes.

Once warmed through, all you have to do is remove it from the heat and allow it to cool down a little. Then drizzle a little honey over the top to add some sweetness.

Sabrina said: "I've been making spiced warm milk at night ever since I can remember. This variation is the one that works best for me.

"So, if you can't fall asleep at night, or if you wake up in the middle of the night and you can't fall back asleep, you have to try this one. It will warm and ground your nervous system back to sleep."

The video has been liked hundreds of times since it was shared, and people were quick to comment too. Sabrina noted you could also use cow's milk if you prefer.

One person said: "I want to try this and see if it works." Another wrote: "Can I use cow's milk? Or is plant-based milk key?" A third also replied: "What can I use instead of ghee?"

Growing up, a lot of people may remember being sent to bed with a glass of milk to help them snooze with ease. It's been long debated as to whether the old folktale actually works, as science claims the chances are low, but there are some big bonuses to adding a little spice.

Firstly, cinnamon is a natural muscle relaxant that can aid with sleep. It's also thought warm milk can help warm your body from the inside, which works to create a calm and cozy feeling.

Not to mention, milk contains tryptophan, an amino acid that helps your body make serotonin and melatonin. This also aids in regulating sleep.
